Hmm... Money... Its a difficult thing to talk about when it comes to web sites. Its going to be a deciding factor on whether you use Whitespace Studios for your web site project or go to someone else. The way we quote is depending on a number of factors and before offering you a quote we will need as much information as possible about your project. Questions we'll ask you will be things like "What is your budget for this web site?" and "What is the timeframe for completion of the project?".
To give you a rough idea of how much sites cost here is a breakdown of some of the work involved in a larger web site project:
- Discussion of your needs and goals
- More discussion (this can go on for a while...)
- Initial rough ideas of layouts and designs
- Design of three or four different layouts or styles for you to choose one of
- Continue designing along the chosen visual path
- Start implementing the functionality and framework of the site
- Continue designing and programming until a satisfactory testing point is reached
- Test site with you and explain usage and functionality
- Make adjustments and improvements based on your feedback
- Finalise code and functionality and make last improvements on typography, design and layout
- Sign off finished project
There are many smaller steps and testing phases in between with feedback and content required from the client at various stages. So when you decide you want a web site, be prepared to put in a bit of time yourselves!
Now for some actual prices:
For a small web site project involving a customised implementation of a Content Management System, like the one used on this site, with say 5 pages (again, like this site) you'll probably be looking at about £500 (about US$1030). This includes 2 different initial designs for you to choose from and a completed site you can update yourselves using a simple system which you'll receive guidance and training on.
You'll also most likely want some web space for your site to be hosted on and we can provide this too. For an extra £28 (US$54) a year we can provide 1Gb of space, 5Gb of monthly transfer (much more than most sites will need) and up to 30 email addresses. You'll also need a domain name, the bit that comes after www, and we can sort this for you too. Prices vary depending on the domain, but we only charge a small administration fee on top of the standard domain pricing.
So all up, for a total cost of about £500 you can have a beautiful web site (then about another £28 a year for hosting and domain), promoting your business and displaying your information for everyone to discover on the internet. You will be able to update the information on your site without requiring the expense of a web designer to do it for you.
